GAY PRIDE WEEK HALIFAX FREE
Everyone is in good spirits, and its all about that infectious bout of free choice. This year’s Pride Festival is chock-full of events, and there’s no shortage of drag performances for all audiences. I absolutely love the downtown energy buzzing around during Pride Week. I noticed that The Cliks are playing on July 24 th… a band I discovered during my L Word days. There is a lot planned, so checking out the options seems to be a good strategy. Plays, food and drink specials, sports games, live entertainment+djs, free cover, comedy nights, a boat cruise- the list goes on and on! I’d suggest picking up an agenda (available at most local businesses/grocery stores) and reading through the day-by-day schedule. The infamous parade is only the beginning.
People of all kinds can come together and celebrate the freedom of lifestyle, and this is very much a positive statement for our city as a whole. It doesn’t matter who, just love and be loved… and celebrate that. Whether you’re gay, lesbian, transgender, bi or straight, this is an event thats all about LOVE.
It seems that this upcoming event (July 18 – 25) is packing some serious heat, with over 140 floats, bands and other sites throughout the city dedicated to Pride times. I mean, we DO that… but we fit other things in there too.Īnother reason why our city rocks socks? Halifax has the largest Pride festival in Atlantic Canada, and continues to get bigger, better and more embraced by everyone as each year passes. What would I like to see? An even bigger focus on profiling the incredible accomplishments of gay people from this region to help drive the message home that we’re not JUST people who dance while wearing rainbows and drinking cocktails. What followed were high quality entries that were fun to watch, great to dance along with, and at times completely spectacular (shout-out to Jay Wells, the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic and Casino NS)! I’m still not 100% into Pride but it really does make me smile to see this city rally together as a welcoming, safe environment for gay people all across the east coast.
GAY PRIDE WEEK HALIFAX PROFESSIONAL
The design of all promotional materials under the Better Together theme were slick, modern and professional (thanks Chester & Co!) which really kicked things into high gear on the first dancey float. I won’t take you through every event but I’ve gotta give some major love to the Pride parade these year which really upped its game over previous years.
From comedy shows to city tours, theatre performances to discussion groups, there seemed to be always something happening all over town.
GAY PRIDE WEEK HALIFAX FULL
Halifax was once again full of love this past week with an incredible line-up of events celebrating diversity, inclusion, respect and community with what I presume was one of the biggest, busiest Pride Weeks we’ve ever seen! I didn’t make it to as many of the events as I would have liked to (which is typically the case) but loved seeing the pride flags, window displays, special ads in The Coast, and the general excitement around celebrating with the city’s LBGQTI (sorry if these aren’t in the right order if there’s one we’re supposed to use).
